THE ‘BRANDLESS’ TREND

It’s hard not to notice that more and more, a simplified approach to branding is entering the marketplace.  The reasons for this minimalist style vary.

In some instances a company may want to shed the “baggage” associated with their company name, for some–less branding opens up options for new product lines, and for others, “less is more” is just a more aesthetically pleasing modern look.

MY FIRST TIME AT THE BEACH!

I think I must have been really good over the last year.

Well, at least I think I was awesome (even though sometimes I still chew on stuff… but then I am the “cute puppy” and can get away with anything…)  - but seriously, other than that I am an awesome doggy… Anyhow, last month my parents took me to that big blue splashy pool.

CLEVER LOGOS

Logos are my favorite thing to design. I usually go through a similar process each time I start on a logo. I’ll start by sketching handfuls of ideas, play with a variety of type faces, then narrow it down to my favorite five to seven. I do everything I can to perfect those and then get other designer’s opinions about which they think are the strongest options.

When Hollywood finds a formula that works they will reuse it until the end of time. Recently Tonya shared with us a website that takes a look at movie posters from the past. There are some strikingly similar design patterns.

Can you guess what these movies are all about?

These movies focus on a hot girl and some poor guy running after her. There will probably be at least one sex scene and a fair number of corny laughs.

PAY ATTENTION

Pay attention and improve.

I was reading a book about design and creativity. The author suggested that a serious product designer should always carry a notebook and keep an eye out for the product that is designed badly. You make a note, take it home and improve it. And then you are supposed to send the design idea to the company so they can make the improvement.

Wouldn’t that be lovely.
